Weekend Weather Offers a Break in the Winter Gloom

Saturday morning looks like the start of a beautiful thing. Frost covers the Boardwalk, but the forecast calls for highs in the mid-40s today, in the upper 40s Sunday and up to 60 by next weekend.

That's good news, even if there are still 108 days until Memorial Day and the unofficial start of another summer.

Not such good news in the surf department. February is starting to look a whole lot like January: flat.

Surf: On Saturday morning, the ocean is showing nothing that resembles a rideable wave, and there don't appear to be any wave-generating weather events in the near-term forecast. The ocean temperature at Steel Pier in Atlantic City right now is 36.3 degrees and low tide is at 8:09 a.m.

Boardwalk: We'll definitely have the air temperature and the sun in our favor on Saturday. The question will be the wind. It's calm on Saturday morning, but the forecast calls for it to pick up to 25 mph out of the west in the afternoon. If Friday afternoon is any indication, it seemed like more of a southwest wind, actually bending off the ocean to become more of a sea breeze. It might be cooler than you expect, so dress accordingly. And enjoy your run heading north.
