Winds of Up to 50 MPH to Spoil a 'Warm' Day on Monday

The waves, wind and weather at dawn in Ocean City. A survival guide for surfers, runners, homeowners and all those who can't wait for another summer.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory Monday morning warning of sustained northwest winds of 20 to 25 mph with gusts to 50 mph. The warning is in effect from noon Monday through Tuesday morning, and the strongest winds are expected to start in the mid-afternoon and continue through late evening.

The heavy winds will cool off a day that is expected to see high temperatures in the mid-50s. On Monday morning, the wind is coming off the water out of the southwest, and even though the temperature is already above 40 degrees, it feels cold.

The wind-chill will make outdoor activities a bit of an adventure on Monday, but remember: There are only 106 days now until Memorial Day!

Surf: At least it's not completely calm. After a few days of dead water, the southwest winds are moving some water. On Monday morning, we're looking at a choppy ocean driven by a sea breeze, though the National Weather Service is calling for a howling land breeze later today. Whether or not there are a few waves in the middle, it's hard to tell. Probably worth a look, though don't expect anything spectacular. High tide is at 4:06 p.m., and the ocean temperature is 37.2 degrees.

Boardwalk: It's already windy on Monday morning—a cold sea breeze pushing runners and walkers north toward First Street. And it's supposed to get windier, maybe shifting more out of the west. It looks nicer than it is. But at least it's sunny. The forecasters say it will cool down again on Tuesday, but then warm up for several days at the end of the week and into next weekend.

Homes: The National Weather Service is warning homeowners to secure lightweight outdoor objects, such as patio furniture and garbage cans. It's also asking drivers to use extra caution on the roads.
