BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Four local Boys & Girls Clubs members were among a select few from across New Jersey to get a shoutout for their leadership, service and academic excellence.

The youth representing Bergen County Boys & Girls Clubs were recognized among 15 outstanding club kids from across the state at a Wednesday ceremony in Montclair, a spokesperson for the state organization said.

"Every single one of these kids are shining examples of the power of youth center, public schools and mentorship," event emcee Violeta Yas said. "(These kids) are all investing in a better, more well-rounded future."

Alias R., of the Clifton club; Jalexi P.M., of Garfield; Julia Y., of Hawthorne; and Gurleen P., of Lower Bergen County, were each honored as among the "nation's most awe-inspiring young people on their path to great futures," the NJ Boys & Girls Clubs spokesperson said.

Each of the club kids vied for the state title of "Youth of the Year," which was ultimately bestowed upon Newark club member Genesis P. — who will go on to serve as ambassador for the 15 honorees at the regional competition.
