East Brook Middle School students and teachers took part in the 11th annual teacher/student floor hockey game last week.
This is the culminating event of the Floor Hockey Club, which is advised by Physical Education teachers Marc Gregory and Brian Hay.
More than 100 East Brook students in grades 5-8 compete in league and tournament play from October through January.

The first place team gets the opportunity to take on the teachers. The students wake up early and arrive by 7:15am so they may play before going to homeroom.
“There is a tremendous amount of dedication displayed by the kids for our club. I give them credit for motivating themselves to be active early in the morning prior to school. While other students are still sleeping, these students are up being active, “said Gregory who has advised the club for 11 years. Gregory
also feels that being active early in the morning helps in their academic classes.

“Studies show that students who have physical education early in the day are more alert, better behaved, and do better on tests,” said Gregory who has been a teacher and coach in Paramus for almost 13 years. The game was played in front of a standing room only crowd consisting of enthusiastic students, teachers, and
parents interested in cheering on their friends, colleagues, and children.
Music Teacher, Greg Nalesnik and his keyboard provided popular tunes that are similarly heard at professional events, and Teachers Aide, Karl Koenig showed his support by being the official for the game.
