Gold's Gym Paramus Supports Jersey Shore Strength

Gym members took their workout to the Boardwalk in Long Branch to raise funds for Sandy Relief.

Gold's Gym Paramus rounded up more than 150 people for one huge workout right on the Boardwalk in Long Branch to show all that the Jersey Shore is "Stronger Than a Hurricane."

Paramus owner Mike Epstein told Patch the gym started the "Stronger Than a Hurricane" T-shirt fundraiser last fall to help raise funds and awareness for the cause.

Now they took it one step further with the Boardwalk workout which brought in more than $4,000 for the New Jersey Relief Fund and helped support the "reopening of the Jersey Shore."

Donations are still coming in and the $4,000-plus raised is in addition to the $3,000 the gym previously raised for the cause through T-shirts sales alone, said Epstein. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the shirsts go towards Sandy Relief.

"[Sandy] affected so many of our brothers and sisters in NJ and especially at the Shore that we wanted to do something to continue to help with awareness and funds as it's going to take a long time and a lot of money for our state to recover," said Epstein.

Proudly wearing their "Strong Than a Hurricane" T-shirts the group of Paramus' Gold's Gym teamed up with friends of the Long Branch gym taking their workout right to the Boardwalk.

Epstein said it was a great day as they all worked out just steps away from the beach and ocean.

"It was a great feeling to see everyone there to support the Shore, the relief effort and proudly wear their Gold's Gym 'Stronger Than a Hurricane' shirts."

Epstein recalled one of the main highlights was a wedding taking place nearby which the group watched while taking a break. They asked the Bride to come on over and Zumba with them and she did, said Epstein.

"This has been a great way for us to help and most importantly the spirit of the people of NJ and the Gold's Gym spirit to help those in need is definitely Stronger Than a Hurricane," he said.
