Paramus Catholic Enters NJSIAA Playoffs as No. 1 Seed

The NJSIAA Football Playoffs start this weekend and the Paladins are looking to make some noise.

The Paramus Catholic Paladins football team came into the season with high hopes. Things seemed to be going according to plan when the Paladins found themselves ranked in the top 10 nationally in most polls in mid-October.

Don Bosco Prep ended any hopes the Paladins had of a perfect season when they came to Paramus and came away with a 20-13 win. Eight days later the Paladins went on the road against St. Joseph’s Regional of Montvale, the No. 1 ranked team in New Jersey. They lost 27-14 at St. Joe’s and were sliding down the rankings.

The Paladins responded to their losses with a pair of impressive wins. The first was a 41-14 win over Friendship Academy (D.C.) and the second was a 44-6 pounding of Bergen Catholic down the road in Oradell.

With the two wins, Paramus Catholic salvaged their spot at the top of their group and heads into the NJSIAA playoff tournament as the top seeded team.

The Paladins play Notre Dame, Lawrence, NJ, on Saturday. Paramus Catholic is a favorite over the 5-4 Notre Dame team and if they can come away with a victory, it could set up a rematch against Don Bosco Prep in the second round.
