Paramus Could Get Additional State Aid for 2013-2014

Governor Christie promises increased state aid for nearly 400 school districts. Paramus will learn Thursday if it is slated to receive more aid for the coming year.

Over the course of the next two days Paramus schools will learn if they will be among the districts slated to get a boost in state aid for the 2013-2014 year.

Governor Chris Christie promised no cuts for any K-12 school district and pledged to increase state aid for the third year in a row to 378 districts.

Christie revealed Tuesday during his state of the state address the budget provides "an increase of $87 million for school aid, bringing total state aid to education to almost $9 billion – an all-time record, for the second year in a row."

Steven Cea, business administrator for the Paramus Board of Education, said  the district is waiting to receive the state aid budget number which is expected Thursday.

The board will host a special meeting Monday, March 4 in order to approve a tentative budget which will then be submitted to the county for approval.

A budget presentation is slated to be presented to the public on March 21.

Last year the district wasfor a total of about $1.9 million in aid for 2012-2013.

For the 2011-2012 school year the district received $710,195  doubling its amount in aid for that school year after aid had been cut so severely the previous year the district had only received less than $8,000 for school year 2010-2011.
