Paramus' First Town-Wide Relay for Life Kicks Off Wednesday

Participants can register their teams and sign-up for the June 14 -June 15 first-ever community-wide event.

The first-ever community-wide Relay for Life fundraiser for the American Cancer Society offically kicks-off this Wednesday night when participants head to Paramus High School cafeteria to sign-up, form teams to get their fundraising efforts started.

Kick-off will begin at 6 p.m. at Paramus High School Wednesday, Feb. 27. Those wishing to learn more and take part an come by to get information about the event, register their team and decorate and dedicate a Luminaria in honor of a loved one who has battled the disease.

Schools in Paramus have regularly conducted Relay for Life events before, but the June 14-June 15 overnight event will be the first-community wide event. The event will take place at the Paramus High School field beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, June 14  concluding Saturday, June 15 at 7 a.m. The event is done overnight to show that cancer never sleeps.

The Relay for Life committee has set a goal of $50,000 for this first event which holds a theme that focuses on sports and competition “Spartan Nation: Tonight We Bleed Purple.”

The Relay team is encouraging all community groups to get involved including schools, businesses, sports teams and the local government.
