Paramus Residents Still Waiting for Power Restoration

Residents throughout the borough continue to be without power five days after Sandy struck Paramus. May take 7 to 10 days to get power restored to all customers, PSE&G reports.

Residents all over the borough are still without power and many businesses are still in the dark.

Power has been restored to some areas but many residents tell Patch they are still without in areas of Bailey, Alden, Galda, Engle, Highland and Linwood, Primrose Lane and Fairmont to name some.

One resident reports the area near Memorial School is still completely in the dark. Another resident writes that Benton Road and most of Demarest is still out.

Many residents report some streets are still blocked off due to downed trees in the roadway such as Monroe and Wilson Avenue and Prescott Place.

Many businesses along Route 4 reported they had power returned such as the Houlihan's and BUCU burger bar and bakery but many on Route 17 are still without power. A handful of gas stations reopened Thursday causing traffic and gridlock as cars were backed up for miles waiting to fill their tanks.

Suburban Diner, Starbucks and several retail stores remained closed on Thursday. Stacks, Home Depot and Burlington Coat Factory appeared to be some of the only ones open with power.

A message on the PSE&G website reports it's estimated it may take the next 7 to 10 days to restore power to all is customers. In large lettering the site states the majority of customers will be restored before then.

According to PSE&G,781,000 customers are still without power and 950,000 have been restored.

1.7 million of it's 2.2 million electric customers were impacted by Hurricane Sandy and at this time 950,000 have had their poer restored. The storm impacted 1.7 million of PSE&G's 2.2 million electric customers, according to the site.

Paramus Borough Hall will reopen on Friday, Nov. 2 and public schools will remain closed on Friday.

Bergen Communty College reports it will remain close on Friday, Nov. 2.
