Paterson Teens Charged With Cell Phone Theft at Garden State Plaza

Two 18-year-old females were arrested and charged in relation to the theft of a mall store employee's cell phone.

Four Paterson teens were taken into custody by Paramus Police Saturday after reports that they had taken part in the theft of a cell phone at Garden State Plaza that afternoon.

Two of the teens, both 18-year-old females, were arrested and charged in relation to a report from mall security that four females were suspected of stealing a cell phone from an employee’s locker at the "Love Culture" store, according to police.

Police allege that Alexus Rhoden, 18, had entered the back room of the store and removed from the cell phone from the employee's locker, police reported.

Tashyma Thorne, also 18, was found to be in possession of more than $200 worth of stolen merchandise, according to the police statement. Thorne also had an outstanding criminal warrant for her arrest in the amount of $3,500 from Passaic, reported Paramus Police. 

The other two females, both juveniles, were released.

Rhoden was charged with providing false information to a police officer and possession of stolen property, cops said. She was later released.

Thorne was charged with possession of stolen property and later turned over to the Passaic Police Department for the outstanding criminal warrant.
