School Board Delays Revising Advertising Policy
Paramus Board of Education seeks more input before revising its policy to allow signs on school property which could generate additional funds for the district.

Paramus Board of Education trustees are getting closer to opening the door to a new revenue source through the sale of ad signs on school property but not before more questions are answered first.
The board opted Monday to table a revised policy, which would now allow signage on school property, in favor of seeking additional input from legal counsel and also from other school districts who allow advertising before moving ahead. Currently the board’s policy prohibits signage on school property.
The topic has been widely discussed among board trustees over the past year or more, most recently in November when the board agreed to put a policy in place for advertising and sponsorship.

The interest is there as the board has been approached by sports associations interested in taking out ad space at school fields. Also the state has recently opened up an additional avenue district's can seek for generating ad revenue by giving the ok for ads on school buses.
In addition to questions about some of the legal ramifications involved, the board also needs to determine how the revenue generated should be used. Discussion included the possibility of dividing it up amongst sports associations or putting it back towards education.
