State Looks Into Racial Taunting Allegations Amongst High School Athletes

Paramus Catholic High School football players are said to have been targets of racial taunting at a Thanksgiving Day game last fall.

Allegations that Paramus Catholic High School football players and coaches were victims of racial taunting during the Turkey Bowl game against Bergen Catholic High School this past November are being looked at by state officials, according to a NorthJersey.com report.

The allegations were brought to the attention of the state via a letter sent to the Division of Civil Rights by a group called the Coalition for Racial Equality in Education, NorthJersey.com reported. According to the Attorney General's office the letter is not a formal complaint but the allegations brought to their attention will be taken seriously, the report stated.

Paramus Catholic president Jim Vail told NorthJersey.com athletes and coaches have been subjected to verbal abuse which at times has been racial in nature, but indicated the November incident was more obvious than previously.
