Turkey Named 'Sears' Gets Pardoned At Paramus Stew Leonard's

The family-owned grocery store is donating 3,000 turkeys to charities across the tri-state area to help less than fortunate families.

PARAMUS, NJ – Sears got a reprieve Thursday morning at Paramus Park Mall.

A turkey named after the mall’s shuttered department store received a pardon from Paramus Mayor Richard LaBarbiera. Now, he will live out the remainder of his life on a farm sanctuary in upstate Connecticut.

The other turkeys at Stew Leonard’s weren't quite as lucky as Sears.

As part of an annual Thanksgiving effort by the family-owned grocery chain, more than 2,700 turkeys at Stew Leonard’s stores in the tri-state area are being donated to local community organizations to help less than fortunate families have a happy holiday meal.

Local police officers and firefighters, along with members of community groups banded together to form a human assembly line, passing the frozen turkeys one-by-one to place into the back of vehicles. The birds will be delivered throughout the community to designated families who are in need, according to Stew Leonard's.
