One Arrested After Attempt To Scam Bergen County Resident, Police Said
Residents told police woman waited outside their home for $11,000 in bail money for their grandchild.
FAIR LAWN — Destiny Gonzalez, 21, of New York City, was charged and arrested on June 2 with obstruction, after she was reportedly outside a Fair Lawn home waiting for bail money for the residents' granddaughter, Fair Lawn police said in a news release.
A police detective responded to the Barry Place home after a call was received that the residents were being scammed out of $11,000 to post bail for their granddaughter. The grandparents, the release said, spoke with a self-professed "attorney" and said the woman was waiting outside for the money.
The woman's story "kept changing during questioning" by the detective, police said. She was released from jail on one's recognizance, meaning she did not have to post bail, after being charged.
