Driver, 77, Identified After Fatal NJ Transit Crash In Morris County
The collision occurred on the Montclair-Boonton line when Michael Carbone, 77, reportedly drove around the crossing gates.
MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — The man killed after his vehicle was hit by a New Jersey Transit train late last month has been identified by police, an agency spokesperson said.
Michael Carbone, 77, of Pompton Plains, was killed when his vehicle was struck by a Montclair-Boonton Line train around 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 28, according to NJ Transit spokesperson Kyalo Mulumba.
Police said the crash happened at the Ryerson Road crossing in Lincoln Park.

While the investigation is ongoing, Mulumba stated that the crossing gates were functioning properly and were in the down position when Carbone drove around them, positioning his vehicle in the path of the oncoming train.
The train, #1074, departed Hackettstown at 8:24 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Hoboken at 10:30 a.m., according to transit officials.

None of the passengers or crew aboard the train were reported to have been injured, officials said.
The New Jersey Transit Police are leading the ongoing investigation.
