Feds Arrest Man Accused Of Taking $1K In Morris Co. Bank Robbery

Officials said the man threatened bank tellers and fled with the cash.

MOUNTAIN LAKES, NJ — Officials said a man is in federal custody after being wanted for threatening employees during a bank robbery in Mountain Lakes last November.

The FBI - Newark office was offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of 46-year-old Tony Winst, whose last address was in Cresskill.

Officials said Winst is suspected of entering the PNC Bank at 425 Boulevard on Nov. 17 and demanding money. No employees were hurt, and he reportedly fled the bank into the woods with the money.

Mountain Lakes Police, the Morris County Sheriff's Office, and the Morris County Prosecutor's Office worked with federal authorities to identify Winst as the suspect.

Authorities arrested Winst on March 9 in New York City and the case will be prosecuted at the federal level, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said.

Originally, FBI officials said Winst threatened that he had a weapon, but the prosecutor's office said this was not the case.
