Longtime Deli Owner Honored By Mayor With Key To Parsippany
Mayor James Barberio awarded the owner of Parsippany Deli with a town key in honor of his more than 50 years of service to the township.

PARSIPPANY, NJ — With more than 50 years in operation, Parsippany Deli & Emerald Gifts has established itself as one of the most dependable delis in town, and Mayor James Barberio recently recognized that accomplishment.
This week, the mayor surprised Parsippany Deli's owner, Ed Hansberry, with an official certificate of achievement after reaching the milestone of 55 years in business and presented him with the prestigious Key to Parsippany-Troy Hills.
The family-owned deli, a long-standing presence in Parsippany, is appreciated by the town for its classic sandwich menu, which includes favorites such as hot pastrami and cheese, Taylor Ham, and corned beef.

Aside from its sandwich options, the institution also sells a variety of Irish items, from black pudding to Irish chocolates and traditional Claddagh rings.

Hansberry, a native of County Waterford in Ireland's southeast, immigrated to the United States as a young man in August 1968. He moved to Parsippany that year, made it his home, and established the Parsippany Deli.
From the same location at 137 Parsippany Road, Hansberry has thrived and struggled over the past five decades.
"I had a dream when I came to America," he said. "It was this business, making it a success. I planned to retire when I was 59. That's come and gone now, but we're still going," Hansberry previously told Patch.
“I can remember coming into Mr. Hansberry’s deli as a young boy growing up in this neighborhood,” Barberio said. “This deli has stood the test of time, and Mr. Hansberry is an exemplary member of the Parsippany community. I wish him many more years of success.”
Parsippany Deli & Emerald Gifts is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
