Mandatory Boil Water Advisory Lifted For Parsippany Residents

Residents in South Powder Mill, Parsippany-Troy Hills, were under a Boil Water Advisory following a weekend water main break.

PARSIPPANY, NJ — A water main break in Parsippany led to a boil water advisory for certain areas of the community, according to township officials.

This weekend, the Parsippany-Troy Hills Water Department was notified of a water main break on Old Dover Rd., causing service interruptions or significant pressure loss for customers in the affected area.

Initially impacted neighborhoods include those south of Route 10 along Powder Mill Road South, Old Dover Road, Glenmont Commons, Mountain Way (north of Old Dover Road), Union Hill Road, Puddingstone Road, Beverly Street, and Violet Street.

As a precaution, the township issued a limited Boil Water Advisory for the South Powder Mill section, which was lifted on Monday afternoon after water testing confirmed the supply was safe.

Representative water quality samples were collected overnight from Saturday to Sunday, confirming that the break has been isolated to a dead end of the water distribution system.

Although the advisory has been lifted, and it is no longer necessary to boil your water before use, the following measures are strongly recommended:

  • Run your faucets for 3–5 minutes to flush your service connection and interior plumbing with fresh water from the main supply.
  • Empty and clean your automatic ice makers and water chillers.
  • Drain and refill your hot water heater if the temperature is set below 113 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • If you have a water softener or cartridge filters, run them through a regeneration cycle or follow the manufacturer’s recommended procedures.
  • For buildings with water reservoirs, drain and refill them as applicable.

"Thank you for your patience. If customers have any questions please contact: The Township of Parsippany-Troy Hills Water Department at 973-263-7099 during business hours or 973-263-7084 after business hours," township officials said.

Evaluation of the main break and repairs are still underway.
