PARSIPPANY, N.J.– The Parsippany-Troy Hills Education Association provided relief to a flooded Lousiana elementary school by sending a $750 check to the teachers, PTHEA Vice President Jay Duhl said.

The direct teacher-to-teacher donation was sent to the educators at Southside Elementary School in Denham Springs, La., which Duhl said was one of the hardest hit facilities in the state.

"This terrible tragedy drew very little attention, with all the focus on the elections and the summer Olympics,” said Susan Jamieson, a second grade teacher at Lake Hiawatha school in Parsippany. "I saw so much devastation that I reached out to a teacher there who was volunteering in a shelter for displaced persons.

"They were out of school for five or six weeks and I remembered how others helped us during Sandy four years ago," Jamieson added.
