PARSIPPANY, NJ — One police officer received minor injuries and his car was damaged last night when a passing car struck his patrol vehicle on westbound Route 10 in Parsippany.

According to the Daily Record, the officer was parked behind a disabled tractor-trailer west of Tabor Road when a 2013 Nissan Altima struck the patrol car from behind.

Police said in a Facebook post the police cruiser was pushed forward into the back of the tractor-trailer, and the Altima got lodged beneath the trailer.

Parsippany police are urging drivers to obey New jersey's "Move Over" law, which requires drivers to move over one lane away from an emergency vehicle stopped on the side of a road. If conditions don't allow the driver to safely move over, drivers must slow down below the speed limit and be prepared to stop quickly.
