WATCH: Parsippany Schools Chief Resigns, Met With Applause

Scott Rixford will stay in his post until late January, per contract details.

Twenty days into his 30-day medical leave, Parsippany-Troy Hills School District Superintendent Scott Rixford resigned his post, which was approved by the board of education Thursday night.

Rixford was hired in July of 2014 and came under fire in the last month after student and teacher schedules for the districts two middle schools were botched.

According to parsippanyfocus.com, the board did not publically pull the item from the consent agenda at the meeting, and was pointed out by a member of the public. As seen in the video below, when the community member addressed the board about the approved resignation, it was met with applause from the meeting’s attendees.

Rixford’s contract is through June 30, 2019 at an annual salary of $175,000. While his resignation was approved Thursday, he’ll stay on until January 26, 2016, the report said.

According to Rixford’s contract, he must give 90 days notice before his last day or would forfeit any sick leave or vacation day compensation.

Upon Rixford’s recommendation last school year the middle school schedules changed format, which in turn lead to the schedule mishap to start the school year.

According to assistant superintendent Nancy Gigante, the schedule issue should be resolved by early October.
