1 Injured As Early Morning Fire Damages Shore Points Motel In Point Pleasant Beach

Authorities said 3 off-duty Point Pleasant Beach police officers saw the fire and started evacuating people immediately.

POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ — One person was injured and several were displaced by an early morning fire at the Shore Points Motel in Point Pleasant Beach, police said.

The fire was reported at 3:06 a.m. Sunday, Point Pleasant Beach police said.

Three off-duty Point Pleasant Beach officers who were passing by the motel on Broadway saw smoke and fire and began evacuating motel rooms, getting the occupants out and moving them to safety, police said Sunday afternoon.

On-duty police who arrived tried to extinguish the fire while the rest of the motel was evacuated, but made little progress in halting the flames, police said.

One person was treated by the Point Pleasant First Aid and Emergency Squad for minor injuries and taken to the hospital as a precaution, police said.

Ocean Fire Company and Point Pleasant Beach Fire Company 2 arrived and put out the fire.

The fire companies said firefighters pulled a hose to focus water on the motel room involved in the fire and assisted with searching for victims and ventilating the motel.

Point Pleasant Fire Department Station 75, Bay Head Fire Company 1, Brielle Fire Company, South Wall Fire and Rescue, and Laurelton Fire Company 1 provided mutual aid.

The fire is under investigation by the Point Pleasant Beach Fire Official’s Office.
