POINT PLEASANT BORO – Police say they confronted a barricaded suspect with a knife in Point Pleasant Boro on Wednesday.

The suspect was identified as 28-year-old Christopher Brooks of Point Pleasant, police said.

The incident happened at 9:37 p.m. when officers from the Point Pleasant Police Department responded to an Ivy Road residence for a well- being check.

Upon arrival, a man came to the front door armed with a knife. The man threatened that, if anyone came into the residence, he would attack, police said.

Point Pleasant Boro police officers set up a perimeter around the residence. The Ocean County Regional SWAT team, the Point Pleasant Police Department negotiator and members of the Ocean County Regional SWAT Team and an Ocean County negotiator responded to the scene, police said.

Inside the residence were Brooks' mother and brother, who were locked in a separate room. After negotiating with Brooks for more than two hours, members of the Ocean County Regional SWAT team made entry into the residence, police said.

During the entry, Brooks assaulted two of the SWAT officers. No one was injured during the incident, police said.

Brooks was transported to Ocean Medical Center for an evaluation. As the investigation is ongoing, criminal charges for aggravated assault, terroristic threats and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes are pending.
