"The fun run starts at 8:00 a.m. The featured 5K will go off at 8:30 a.m. on a flat and fast course through the Bay Head Shores community that saw some of the heavy impact from Hurricane Sandy," Doherty writes in the blog.

"Proceeds from the event will go towards the club's efforts to help melanoma research and to aid various charities and community-based organizations and groups.

The 5K is named for Kevin A. Brue who lost a courageous battle with melanoma several years ago. His father, John Brue Sr., is an active Point Boro Rotarian and chairperson of the race committee.

Kevin’s brother is John Brue Jr., Point Borough resident and lead singer of the Brue Crew band, which will perform live from 8 to 11 a.m. on the day of the race."

Registration to participate is over, but donations are still welcome.
