POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ — The Point Pleasant Beach Shade Tree Commission is offering free shade trees to Point Pleasant Beach property owners to increase the number of shade trees along the borough's streets.

The program, called Free Street Tree PPB, is new for 2024, officials said.

"With trees lacking in so many parts of our town, the commission is encouraging property owners to actively participate in the improvement of their block," the commission said.

There are a limited number of trees available for properties in Point Pleasant Beach only, including those whose streets do not have sidewalks, the commission said.

Properties will be evaluated on the need for trees, the width of the planting strip between the curb and sidewalk and the suitability of the site. Blocks without sidewalks or very narrow planting strips are eligible for a free tree to be planted in the public right-of-way, which is the first 8 to 12 feet from the street.
