JetBlue Grounds All Flights in Newark, New York, Boston

Airline halts all flights at four major airports as arctic blast expected to cause icing conditions on runways.

JetBlue stopped all flights Monday at four major airports in Newark, New York and Boston ahead of a frigid arctic front expected to produce 20-below wind chills.

The airline began stopping flights to and from Newark Liberty, JFK, LaGuardia and Boston's Logan airports at 1 p.m. Monday. JetBlue planned to resume flights at 10 a.m. Tuesday and be fully operational by 3 p.m. Tuesday.

"This plan allows for 17 hours of rest for crews, and time for Tech Ops to service the aircraft," JetBlue said in a statement.

JetBlue said it's still recovering from last week's winter storm, icing conditions over the weekend and the high volume of travelers returning from the holidays, according to the statement.

The airline said the latest issue is dealing with plummeting temperatures causing Monday's rain to "turn airports in the Northeast into ice rinks."
