POINT PLEASANT, NJ — A Point Pleasant man hid cameras in the bedrooms of children who were being fostered in his home then uploaded nude photos of the children to the internet, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said Friday.

John C. Olson, 42, has been charged with manufacturing child sexual abuse material, distribution of child sexual abuse material and possession of child sexual abuse material, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.

Ocean County authorities received a tip from New Jersey State Police about someone uploading child pornography images, and investigators identified it as coming from a Point Pleasant address, the prosecutor's office said.

Authorities ultimately identified the person as Olson, the prosecutor's office said.

Investigators searched Olson's home on Aug. 22 and seized several electronic devices, and learned Olson had been uploading photos of sexual abuse of children using the Kik application, the prosecutor's office said.

Detectives also learned that Olson's home was serving as a foster home and that there were cameras hidden in the children's bedrooms, the prosecutor's office said.

At that point Olson was arrested and charged with distribution and possession of child sexual abuse material, the prosecutor's office said.

A forensic investigation of the devices seized from Olson's home uncovered nude photos of children on his cellphone that appeared to have been taken by the cameras in the children's bedrooms, and he was charged with manufacturing child sexual images on Thursday, the prosecutor's office said.

Olson is being held in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River pending a detention hearing, authorities said.
