Point Pleasant native Kevin Lasko will be among world-class athletes competing in an elite obstacle race in Vermont in June.

Lasko had lived in the Borough from 1981, when he was born, until 1999. His father, Jerry Lasko, lives on Oakewood Road in Point Borough and his mother, Joann Lasko, lives in Toms River.

Lasko left the Borough to attend Culinary School and is executive chef at Park Avenue Spring, owned by Fourth Wall Restaurants, in New York City. Now he's preparing to compete in the Spartan Death Race, a 60 hour, 50 mile obstacle race in Pittsfield, VT.

"Competitors can only participate via invitation, and the group of highly elite athletes are culled from around the world," said Katie Stiles who works with Lasko.

Lasko has also stayed connected with his Borough roots, having held a recent fundraiser, raking in more than $8,000, for the Point Boro First Aid Squad at the restaurant where he works.

Lasko has spent the past year and a half participating in a number of obstacle races to train for the Death Race, which will be the biggest challenge he has undertaken to date, said Stiles.

In the past twelve months alone, he has participated in Tough Mudder races, qualifying for the elite World’s Toughest Mudder and GoRuck races (12 hour military-inspired team challenges), including one GoRuck Heavy, a 24 hour version of the challenge.

"He’s done a number of Spartan Races, including the 13 hour Spartan Beast, and most recently, he signed up for his first ever running race, the NJ Ultra Festival 50 miler, and came in fourth place overall," Stiles said.
