Point Pleasant Man Accused Of Child Pornography Possession

The man was arrested following an investigation of a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

POINT PLEASANT, NJ — A Point Pleasant man has been charged with possession of child sexual abuse material after multiple images depicting child sexual abuse were found on his electronics, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said Friday.

James R. Vavra, 74, was arrested Thursday at his home following an investigation prompted by a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and New Jersey State Police, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.

Investigators identified an IP address associated with a Point Pleasant address as the location someone was uploading child sexual abuse images to the internet, and then identified Vavra as the person responsible, the prosecutor's office said.

Authorities executed a search warrant at Vavra's home on Thursday and seized several electronic devices, the prosecutor's office said. A forensic examination of those devices by the Ocean County High Tech Crime Squad found several items of child sexual abuse material, the prosecutor's office said.

The number of images and/or videos was not disclosed.

Vavra is being held at the Ocean County Jail in Toms River pending a detention hearing.
