Price Tag For Dredging Little Silver Lake Much Higher Than Point Beach Officials Expected
Bids came back nearly half a million higher than anticipated, borough administrator says..

POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ - Borough officials have no choice put to push ahead with plans to dredge Little Silver Lake, despite the bids for the project coming in much higher than they expected.
The lowest bid for the much-needed work came in at $2.43 million, roughly $450,000 over budget, Borough Administrator Christine Riehl said at a recent Borough Council meeting, according to a report in the Ocean Star.
The lowest bidder was Albert Marine Construction in Waretown.

Riehl said the only way to lower the cost of the project was to dredge less of the lake, which no one favored.
"We have to get it done," Mayor Stephen Reid said.

Riehl recommended that the council add another $450,000 to the bond ordinance to get the work done before winter sets in.
Borough Council members introduced the amended bond ordinance. A second reading and public hearing on the matter will be held at the Oct. 17 council meeting.
The project includes the installation of a flood gate at Boston Avenue to help prevent flooding.
