POINT PLEASANT, NJ — Point Pleasant police say a person in crisis led to a standoff that lasted more than five hours but was resolved peacefully on Thursday night.

Police were called to a home on the 1100 block of River Avenue about 3 p.m. Thursday for a report of a person in crisis, Capt. Christopher Leonhardt said.

Leonhardt said the roads around the home were closed as a precaution while authorities assessed the scene, and a significant police presence remained until the situation was resolved and the crisis was successfully averted at about 8:20 p.m.

"The Point Pleasant Police Department assures the community that there is no ongoing threat to public safety," he said. "The heavy police response was necessary to ensure the well-being of all involved."

"We appreciate the patience and cooperation of the community during this incident and want to assure residents that the safety and security of our town remain our top priority," Leonhardt said.
