iTunes Gift Card Scam, Harassment: Princeton Police Logs

One victim reported being scammed out of over $1,000 in gift cards.

PRINCETON, NJ — This week, Princeton police dealt with calls for criminal mischief, harassment and theft, one of which was a scam. Here's the information from the Princeton Police Department's release.

Monday, May 20

Theft by Deception

A victim reported that around 4:45 a.m., they got an email from somebody claiming to be their boss. The email told them to buy iTunes gift cards and email them back with authentication codes. The victim complied, buying $1,024 in gift cards and sending them to the scammer. After the scammer asked for more cards, the victim realized it was a scam.

Criminal Mischief

A victim reported that between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. on May 15, somebody damaged their vehicle at the Spring Street Garage. There was a deep scratch, about three feet long, apparently made with a sharp object.

Tuesday, May 21

Harassment

Police responded around 9 p.m. to Battle Road on a harassment call. After interviewing everybody, police issued Charles Lin a summons for harassment, a petty disorderly persons offense.

Wednesday, May 22

Theft

A victim reported that on Tuesday, May 21, around 10 a.m., somebody stole their Samsung Galaxy Note 9 from a bus stop bench in the 200 block of Nassau Street. Authorities were unable to track the device.
