ICYMI: Princeton Grad Ends 'Jeopardy!' Run, Wins Nearly $100K
While the alumna's streak is over, she'll be forever remembered as the woman who brought down the legendary James Holzhauer.
PAOLI, PA — A Princeton grad has stepped down from her throne as "Jeopardy!" champion after a three-game streak. Emma Boettcher, who graduated in 2014, won nearly $100,000 on the game show.
Boettcher lost Thursday night to Brendan Roach, a policy researcher advisor from Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Regardless of her loss, Boettcher will forever be known as the woman who brought down James Holzhauer, the man who "broke" the game. Holzhauer's hugely successful streak brought in nearly $2.5 million, winning cash at over double the rate of long-time champion Ken Jennings, who won about the same amount in over 70 games.

“I got to the studio that day and along with all the other contestants found out, ‘there’s a 32-time champion here to play a couple of us,’” Boettcher said, according to the Daily Princetonian. “I thought it was a joke at first.”
Boettcher, a 27-year-old librarian at the University of Chicago, walked away from "Jeopardy!" with $97,002, not including the $1,000 she won for finishing third in Thursday's game.
