Princeton Honors Police Officer Who Retired After 30 Years of Service

Sgt. James Martinez joined the Princeton Borough Police Department in January 1994.

PRINCETON, NJ — On Jan. 13, Council recognized Sgt. James Martinez for 30 years of dedicated service to the community.

Martinez joined the Princeton Borough Police Department in January 1994 in the role of Patrol Officer.

Over the span of 30 years, he held several titles including Patrol Officer, Corporal, and Patrol Sergeant.

Martinez also served the country as a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corps Reserve.

His retirement was effective Dec. 31, 2024.

“I’m not originally from Princeton, but Princeton will always be a part of me,” Martinez said. “I plan to come back with my family and enjoy Princeton as a civilian now.”

Martinez plans to spend his retirement enjoying Rutgers University Football games.
