Princeton University faculty member Cecilia Rouse has been named dean of the University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. Her appointment is effective Sept. 1.

Princeton Borough Police are seeking anyone with information about a shoplifting incident at Zoe, 11 Hullfish Street at 10:48 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 1. Police said two men reportedly entered the store and stole eight luggage bags worth a total of $20,270.

An attic fire broke out in a home in the 100 block of Herrontown Road on Wednesday afternoon and firefighters had to to remove part of the side of the house in order to extinguish it. The blaze was under control within about 10-15 minutes, Mooney said. Assistant Fire Chief Bill Mooney said said the cause of the fire is not yet known.

 

Rebecca Soni won her first gold medal at the London Olympics and broke her world record time in the 200-meter breaststroke on Thursday. The Plainsboro native pushed her way ahead and came out on top with a time of 2:19.59, ahead of Japan’s Satomi Suzuki by 1.13 seconds. On Monday Soni , silver in the 100-meter breaststroke. 

 

One day before the state begins its 12-week trial to close the jughandle turns along Route 1 in and out of Princeton, Mercer County officials have announced the closure of Quaker Road beginning August 20 through mid-Feburary, 2013. It’s likely to be a tough adjustment for commuters, who have already been vocal in their opposition to the state’s plan to temporarily restrict left turns and U-turns on Route 1 at Washington Road and Harrison Street.

 

A car crashed into a metal fence and went airborne over six cars, landing on its roof, at a Mini Cooper dealership on the north side of the Route 1 Friday morning, according to West Windsor police. West Windsor emergency services pulled the woman who was driving out of the car and took her to University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro as a precaution, said Lt. William Bastedo. No lanes were closed, but traffic was backed up to the 95 overpass in Lawrence, he said. A Nixle alert sent after the crash called it a “traffic nightmare.”

 

USRowing has done it again. On Thursday, the women's eight boat captured Olympic gold, edging out Canada at the Olympic course at Eton Dorney. The U.S. finished in 6:10.59, followed by Canada in 6:12.06 and The Netherlands in 6:13.12. "Coming off the line, I felt so much power,"coxswain Mary Whipple told US Rowing. " And then when we took our stride, that was beautiful. We were a little high and I just told them to breathe and enjoy this moment. Feel each stroke. Be present. And we were present that whole time. It was magical."
