A growing number of apartment buildings nationwide now include a gym. In 2010, 89% of buildings had fitness amenities, compared with 29% in the 1970s, the analysis said.

While gyms are one of the most attractive amenities for renters, it's not a deal breaker, RentCafe found. More than 70% of respondents to a survey said they would still rent from a building without a gym and the majority of people aren’t willing to dole out more money to have one on-site.
