Gov. Christie Cancels Hackensack Campaign Rally

Cancelation due to the death of U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg.

Governor Chris Christie's planned campaign rally in Hackensack Monday night has been canceled following the death of Democratic U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg, the Bergen County Republican Organization announced.

The governor was scheduled to fire up the crowd with his "Jersey Strong" message at the BCRO's campaign headquarters at 5:30 p.m., one day before state primary elections.

"The BCRO joins all New Jerseyans in prayerful reflection in offering condolences on the death of Frank Lautenberg," the organization wrote on its website Monday.

Launtenberg, the last remaining World War II veteran in the senate, died Monday morning at the age of 89. 

Christie, a Republican, will choose a replacement to fill Lautenberg's seat.
