Fire In Clothes Dryer Renders Glen Rock Home Unliveable: Police

Firefighters responded to a Glen Rock home on Sunday to fight a blaze that started in a clothes dryer, police said.

GLEN ROCK, NJ — A fire that started in the clothes dryer of a Glen Rock home on Sunday spread along the second floor, forcing the residents to have to temporarily move out, police said.

Police and firefighters responded before 10:30 a.m. to an Andover Terrace residence in response to a report of a fire on the second floor, police said.

Sgt. Greg Carter, Officer John Tarantino, and Officer Nick Onove determined that all occupants of the home had safely evacuated, police said.

"They found that a close dryer was on fire and was spreading to the rear of the second-floor laundry room," police said.

Police contained the fire with extinguishers from their patrol vehicles until firefighters arrived on scene and continued fighting the blaze, police said.

Firefighters from Hawthorne, Fair Lawn, Midland Park, Paramus, and Ridgewood came to assist, police said. The Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps also responded.

"The residence was deemed unsafe to be occupied and the residents are staying at an alternate location until the home can be reoccupied," police said.

Officials are investigating the cause of the fire, police said.
