Garfield PD Continues To Investigate Report Of Gunshots
A report of gunshots in Garfield drew a heavy law enforcement response and prompted schools to enter "shelter in place" mode on Wednesday.
GARFIELD, NJ - A report of gunshots in Garfield drew a heavy law enforcement response and prompted local schools to enter "shelter in place" mode on Wednesday morning.
While no arrests have been made nor was anyone injured, Garfield Police Capt. Richard Uram said police are continuing to investigate the incident.
Around 10:35 a.m., police received a call reporting gunshots in the area of Maple Street and Pierre Avenue, Uram said. Garfield police, along with Bergen County Regional SWAT Team and Bergen County Sheriff's Office K-9 unit, were dispatched to the scene, while nearby schools were put into "shelter in place" as a precaution while officers determined the area was clear, Uram said.

Further investigation revealed that several area residents also heard the shots, he said.
