GLEN ROCK, NJ - A Glen Rock strip mall was briefly evacuated Tuesday morning after authorities received a report of a suspicious looking pressure cooker that was left in a shopping cart.

Police Chief Dean Ackermann said around 9:58 a.m., a 911 call came in reporting the discovery, which was made just outside the main entrance at the Rock Farmer's Market on Prospect Street.

"Out of an abundance of caution," authorities evacuated the farmer's market, as well as the ten other retail establishments within the strip mall, and shut down Prospect Street at the Fair Lawn border, the chief said.

Authorities declared the scene "all clear" at 11:17 a.m., Ackermann said.

The Bergen County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad were immediately dispatch to the scene, fire and EMS personnel were placed on standby. A bomb technician ultimately determined the pressure cooker posed no threat, the chief said.

"Glen Rock Detectives are currently reviewing video footage from the stores in an effort to identify the individual who left the pressure cooker behind, however, at this juncture there is no evidence to support any criminal intent or a direct threat to the Rock Farmers Market nor any other store in the complex," he said.

The chief added, “In the 21st century a pressure cooker left unattended in any public place, even if due to carelessness, will no doubt cause public alarm. We would like to thank the concerned citizen who notified us of its presence”.
