Graydon Lawsuit, Fields Use Concession and Upset Bears, Oh My!

Catch up on what went down in the village this week

Although many folk thought this a good week to head to the beach or wherever, enough rable-rousers, helicopters, top-notch musicians and some big school news to keep the (digital) papers churnin' out the hits.

If you've missed anything that's happened, browse our top stories of the week.

1) Two parties in the on Wednesday. A Superior Court judge ruled that the village could not name two parties in the matter as defendants; the jury trial is scheduled to begin September 28.

2) There may finally be some movement along the Fields Use Policy front, as the board of education agreed to a major concession at its Monday meeting. The school board said it would compromise with the council on lights-out times at Stevens Field, OKing 9:00 p.m. However, it's still pushing for 20 weekend nights where games could be played until 10:00 p.m. and wanted Vets Field to also have a lights-out time of 10:00 p.m. In other school news, Laurie Goodman expressed concern with a student conduct policy and we heard that the superintendent reported no damage from the Graduation Day flooding.

3) Midland Park rockers and avoiding Ridgewood's Bosco the Bear in a territorial music mashup. Some of that is meant to be taken figuratively. Glen Rock Patch Editor Joseph M. Gerace caught the guys playing a set in Ridgewood's Van Neste Square. Definitely check it out!

4) A cell tower application to erect a 120-foot tall monopole at Valleau Cemetary .

5) After a month-long renovation hiatus, Ridgewood Coffee Company opened its doors to the public on Friday unveiling a new look and new menu. The RCC wasn't the only village business to re-open with a new look – the restaurant formerly known as Fratelli Trattoria is back as Osteria La Fiamma, featuring a wood rotisserie oven.
