Here's A Look At Bergenfield's New Lidl Supermarket

Lidl, a German-based discount grocery chain, will open its Bergenfield store on Wednesday.

BERGENFIELD, NJ - Lidl, a German-based discount grocery chain, will open its Bergenfield store on Wednesday.

Located at 80 New Bridge Road, the store, which was previously an Acme supermarket, will host a ribbon cutting ceremony at exactly 7:40 a.m. on opening day and the doors will open at 8 a.m.

As part of the grand opening celebration, the chain has several special deals, giveaways, activities and games planned throughout the weekend. That includes a special gift card ranging from $5 to $100 to the first 100 customers and free samples featuring an array of Lidl's products and a complimentary reusable bag while supplies last.

“As a New Jersey native, I am excited to have the opportunity to provide a grocery store that offers high quality and low prices, and to bring something fresh and exciting to the neighborhood,”said Bergenfield Store Manager Roanne Esdaile. “The team and I look forward to getting to know the community in December.”

The Bergenfield store is Lidl's first location in Bergen County and sixth in New Jersey. It will be open Monday through Sunday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The new location, which features an environmentally friendly design, also includes an "easy to shop layout that will mean a faster and more convenient shop for customers."

On sale will be a variety of items including hundreds of organic and gluten free products, American products, European specialty items ranging from hard-to-find cheeses to authentic specialty sauces, cured meats, beer, wine and Lidl's award-winning private label products.

Lidl offers an ever-changing selection of food and non-food specials brought in each Wednesday for a limited time, keeping the shopping experience exciting and new. The rotating non-food selection will include fitness gear, small kitchen appliances, toys, outdoor furniture, and more.

In 2018, Lidl was ranked by Food & Wine magazine as the third best grocery in the U.S., above Trader Joe's, Whole Foods and Aldi. The chain utilizes cost-cutting measures to keep prices down, such as foregoing checkout bags and not carrying many name brands.

Aldi, also a German grocery chain, plans to open a store in Bergenfield less than a half mile away from one of its competitors, Lidl.

An opening date for Aldi's 12,000-square-foot store at 426 South Washington Avenue has not yet been announced but the chain says it'll be sometime next year. Job postings have already been put on Aldi's website for the new location.
