A Look Inside American Dream's Candy Department Store

The store spans 22,000 square feet over three floors, making it the world's largest non-manufacturer candy store.

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – The world’s first candy department store officially opened at American Dream on Saturday.

The store, which IT'SUGAR described as a "completely unique retail concept," spans 22,000 square feet over three floors – making it the world's largest non-manufacturer candy store. The store features over 10,000 choices of candy, showcasing brands such as Sour Patch Kids, Oreo, Nerds, Reese's, Peeps, Pez and Starburst.

Upon entering, shoppers are greeted by a 60-foot-tall replica of the Statue of Liberty – covered in 1.5 million Jelly Belly beans. Once inside, customers can visit the first floor's centerpiece, a lollipop garden filled with nearly ten-thousand lollipops. Surrounding the garden is over 5,000-square-feet of candy bins housing a variety of sweets.

Sometime next spring, a new Oreo cafe concept called Oreo TWISTiD will be added to the third floor, according to IT'SUGAR.

Jeff Rubin, who founded IT'SUGAR in 2006 and is currently the chief executive officer, said creating a candy department store "has been a dream" of his for over 25 years.

“I’ve been thinking about this concept for over 25 years and our IT’SUGAR team is thrilled to partner with American Dream to make it a reality. There is nowhere else like American Dream and we look forward to immersing the property’s millions of guests into the world of IT’SUGAR,” Rubin said.

The candy retailer has more than 100 locations across the country, however the American Dream store is the first IT'SUGAR in northern New Jersey.

For now, Nickelodeon Universe Theme Park, Big SNOW indoor ski park and an NHL-size ice rink are ready for the public. DreamWorks Water Park, an indoor water park that will include the world's largest indoor water coaster, a free fall slide with a 70-foot drop, a lazy river and a 1.5-acre wave pool was supposed to open Nov. 27, but the mall recently announced it would be delayed until further notice.

Other attractions, shopping and dining will follow over the next several months at the $5 billion mall.
