One Nagging Detail on Fields Use Policy Remains

Council doesn't want Fields Committee to have authority over temporary lighting on fields

Debate of the Fields Use Policy after the school board and council negotiated a deal that appeased both sides. But, as discussed at last week's council meeting, one detail remains before the policy is really finalized.

Village officials said at the council work session that on Page 17, Section C of the revised Fields Use Policy, a clause gives the independent Fields Committee the authority to place "temporary" generator lights at any field for up to a year.

Council members said it appeared a "typographical" error and want the language of the document to reflect that the council or Board of Education "have the control" to make such decisions on their own respective fields.

"It shouldn't be up to the Fields Committee," Mayor Keith Killion said, adding that the school board and council agreed on that point already, but for whatever reason the language stuck in the late stages of revisions.

The council is likely to have the language amended for its Wednesday public meeting.
