P.B.A. Throwing Charity Dinner to Help Ridgewood Girl's Heroic Battle with Cancer

Haley Tyrrell, a student at B.F., is fighting bone cancer; the P.B.A. is raising money to help with the purchase of advanced prosthetics after her leg was amputated

They're chartered to protect and serve, but so often we forget the latter part of the equation.

The Ridgewood P.B.A. Local #20 will be hosting a charity dinner to benefit Haley Tyrrell, a student at Benjamin Franklin Middle School battling a rare and aggressive form of bone cancer, discovered after she'd fallen and broken her femur several years ago.

Tyrrell has spent years fighting the affects of various treatments and had her right leg amputated to prevent the spreading of the disease. Because Tyrrell is still growing, advanced prosthetics have a short period of use. Worse, they're not covered under Tyrell's medical insurance.

"We are fortunate to not only serve, but be a part of a great community here in Ridgewood," said Patrolman Kevin McKeon. "We can't think of a better way to serve our community than to help one of our brave residents as she fights her battle with cancer."

The men and women of the RPD will be holding the dinner at The Estate at Florentine Gardens in River Vale on Thursday, October 13.

Included at the dinner will be plenty of prizes, a 50/50 raffle and of course, open bar. Dad's Night band HAWK will be performing as well. The cocktail hour begins at 6:00 p.m. with dinner beginning at 7:00 p.m.

P.B.A. #20 is asking anyone interested offer monetary donations, door prize donations (say a television, trip or something smaller, even) or table sponsorships if they can. The table sponsorship is $250 with the merchant or family name being displayed on the table as a premium sponsor.

Tickets are available at the door, or can be purchased at the RPD's front desk on the second floor of Village Hall, by e-mailing the PBA at ridgewoodpba@gmail.com or calling 201-638-2946.
