Police: Man Tosses Crack Cocaine Out Window, Leads Cops on Chase

Pursuit that stretched from Route 208 into a residential Hawthorne back yard ended when Patrolman Bryan Scott tackled a Wanaque man.

A Wanaque man who led police on a pursuit Saturday tossed two bags of crack cocaine out the window before his capture, Glen Rock police said Tuesday.

Glen Rock patrol officer Bryan Scott attempted to pull over a black Pontiac Grand Am for a motor vehicle violation at Route 208 and Harristown Road just after 5:30 p.m. Saturday. But the driver had other ideas, speeding past the officer, Captain Jonathan Miller said.

The driver, identified as Dean Deblasio, 47, of Wanaque, was observed tossing two Ziploc bags out the window at Route 208 and Goffle Road, Miller said. Patrolman Scott picked up the twin bags – which were determined to be crack cocaine – and then continued the pursuit, chasing Deblasio onto Rock Road, according to Miller.

Deblasio pulled into the apartments on Rock Road and fled on foot before Scott tackled him on 4th Avenue in Hawthorne, Miller said. Police said the Wanaque man had alcohol on his breath and a lit marijuana cigarette in the vehicle.

Hawthorne, Ridgewood and Wyckoff officers assisted in the pursuit and arrest.
