Ridgewood Man Detained At Newark Airport For Gun: Reports

A Ridgewood man was arrested at Newark Airport for trying to carry a gun through a checkpoint, reports said.

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — A Ridgewood man was arrested at Newark Airport on Nov. 1 when Transportation Security Administration officers found a gun among his carry-on items, according to a report in Homeland Security Today.

They alerted Port Authority police, who arrested him and took the gun, the outlet reported.

The TSA's federal security director for New Jersey was quoted as saying, “This individual said that he had previously been a crime victim, which is why he had his firearm with him. This is an understandable reason to own a firearm. However, guns are not permitted to be carried into the cabin of a plane. As a result, not only does this individual face criminal charges from the police, but he also will face a stiff federal financial civil penalty." See the story here.
