Sunday Walking Tour Will Explore History of Ridgewood Neighborhood

A walking tour on Sunday will highlight the history of Wastena Park (now Wastena Terrace), sponsored by the Ridgewood Historical Society.

Elliot Dee, a historical society member who studied architectural history at Cornell and Harvard, will lead a 90-minute tour discussing eight homes along the village road, exploring its history as a distinctive arts and crafts community during the early 20th century.

The stroll is the third sponsored by the historical society, which has in the past invited residents to delve into the history of Ridgewood's west side and the neighborhood surrounding the high school.

"When Ridgewood was developing, different sections were built and houses established," said Sheila Brogan, the president of the historical society. "We're trying to do different events to really increase knowledge and have people excited about the history of our town."

The tour will kick off 2 p.m. Oct. 6 at 352 Wastena Terrace, with a rain date of Oct. 20. Space is limited and filling fast, and tickets - $5 per adult and $10 per family - can be reserved by emailing info@ridgewoodhistoricalsociety.org.
