Who Will Become the New Chairman of the Planning Board?

Since Chairman at the last planning board meeting, the village's main planning body will choose its new look on Tuesday night.

Although the village council appoints members to the planning board, the board itself determines its own presiding structure.

In 2010, Nicholson was , capturing three votes to two dissenting (Mayor Keith Killion and Councilwoman Bernadette Walsh). Albert Pucciarelli, an attorney by trade, was appointed vice chairman and presided over meetings in Nicholson's absence.

Alternate #1 Richard Joel , with Alternate #2 Jane Shinozuka taking Joel's spot. There have been no official actions from the council in appointing a second alternate.

The other members of the planning board are Mayor Killion and Councilwoman Bernadette Walsh; Nancy Bigos; Kevin Reilly; Constantine Suriano; Morgan Hurley; and Charles Nalbantian.

The planning board will also continue its , which could transform the area into another business district.

While rezoning could bring valuable revenue in the form of ratables and planning board members have said the area better serves commercial use than residential, neighbors around Linwood Avenue and Paramus Road have expressed concern with zoning precedents, traffic and other issues.

A vote on the Burroughs property, a plan to develop what was once proposed as the "Baker" housing subdivision into a commercial space off Rt. 17 and Paramus Avenue, could happen Tuesday.
