McDonald's Gets a New Look, New Administrators Named at OPS This Week
A recap of the past week in River Dell
Since the 1960s, the River Edge on Main and Elizabeth Streets has been a familiar site in the downtown area. It has undergone two renovations in its over 50-year history with the borough and after Thursday night, the Golden Arches will be reincarnated for a third time following a unanimous approval by the Planning Board. The proposal calls for a total rebuild of the site following the demolition of the existing building.
The Oradell Board of Education announced their new administrative staff on Wednesday night. With both Principal Scott Ryan and Assistant John Norton leaving, Thomas Santagat, the Director of Special Education and Student Support Services is the lone returning administrator this fall. Joining him will be Anne Facendo, Superintendent/Principal; Megan Bozios, Assistant Principal; Sara Bright, Supervisor of Instruction K-3; and Kevin Stokes, Supervisor of Instruction, 4-6.
Bergen Catholic's John Germano won a quarterback skills contest in June after besting 24 of the region's top high school passers. The competetion was recently aired by MSG Varsity. In a competition judged by former New York Giants Phil Simms and Amani Toomer among others, student athletes from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut competed in passing events, throwing at both targets and to live receivers.

After suffering through a horrible back injury,musician/composer Krishna Venkatesh of River Edge turned to yoga to seek relief. And from there, his love affair with the practice began, leading him to start the borough’s first hot vinyasa yoga class at , beginning Sept. 10.
Despite several setbacks and complications,Oradell's Tammy Dunwoody and Glen Rock's Amy Lung fought their way through three rounds of Food Network's Cupcake Wars on Sunday evening before coming up just short in the end. The two bakers from and competed for the opportunity to serve their cupcakes at a VIP party celebrating the release of "Private Practice" star Kate Walsh's fragrance, Billionaire Boyfriend.

Campers at the greenhouse at are getting to have "fun in the sun" with water play, games, art, music and outdoor activities under the guidance of certified teachers that include SJS PreK teacher Ana Rossig, and teacher Frank Langan. Campers previously participated in water fun, "Fairytale Day", "Halloween in July" and received a sticker from "queen" SJS principal Colette Vail.

Faced with a shrinking annual budget and needed facility repairs, representatives from the Oradell Recreation Committee came before the Borough Council last week to propose selling banner advertisements along the walls of Doug Parcells Athletic Complex (DPAC). Oradell Recreation Director Gina Reynolds and Tom Neville, the chair of the Recreation Committee, outlined the proposal at the council's July 10 meeting, explaining the need for extra revenue.
IHA/BC team goes extra yardThe new IHA-Bergen Catholic cross-country coach (the teams will be combined this fall for the first time) took seven of his runners to Philadelphia recently to get their blood tested in order to come up with an optimal training program for each.
Oradell is moving forward with a borough-wide technology upgrade that officials hope will promote efficiency and easier interaction with residents. The council will soon send out requests for proposals to companies for the equipment and hopes to begin the process of implementation next month. The project includes updating desktop computers and laptops as well as new software.
